Flux 3 Klein guide
Flux 3 Image Klein is Black Forest Labs’ open-weights release in the Flux 3 family: a 5.6B-parameter model that does text-to-image, instruction editing, multi-reference generation, and bounding-box layout control at up to 4K. This guide covers what Klein is, how it differs from the hosted model, and the two ways to run it — online here, or on your own GPU.
Klein packages the core FLUX 3 Image capabilities into a small open checkpoint: text-to-image, image editing, multi-reference generation with up to ten images, and bounding boxes that control where elements are placed or confine an edit to a defined area. It generates natively at up to 4K and ships two checkpoints — a step-distilled build for low-latency generation and a base build for fine-tuning and LoRA training.
Quantized FP8, INT8, and NVFP4 builds, developed with NVIDIA support, let it run on a consumer GPU — an RTX 3090-class card is enough — and the same model is served through the BFL API as flux-3-image-klein with prompt upsampling and pixel restoration.
Download, fine-tune, distill, and build on the checkpoints under the FLUX Kommunity License.
Bounding boxes in the prompt tell the model where things go — a capability most image models lack.
Consumer-GPU friendly builds plus first-party ComfyUI and Diffusers support.
The choice is not quality, it is control versus convenience. Klein gives you the weights: fine-tune it on your products or characters, wire it into ComfyUI, run it offline. The hosted Flux 3 model in this studio gives you zero infrastructure: open a tab, write a prompt, and the engine runs — with free starter credits on new accounts.
For experimentation, the fastest path is to try prompts online first, then decide whether your pipeline needs self-hosted weights.
Both checkpoints — black-forest-labs/flux-3-image-klein (distilled, 16 steps) and -klein-base (50 steps, for fine-tuning) — are on Hugging Face, with first-party Diffusers and ComfyUI support. The FLUX Kommunity License permits free commercial use for individuals and companies under $5M in annual revenue; larger deployments license through Black Forest Labs.
Trained LoRAs on the base checkpoint also load into the distilled one, which makes Klein a practical target for style and product adapters.
The studio panel on this page runs the Flux 3 image engine — write a prompt, attach references, and compare results at 1K before spending credits at 2K or 4K. New accounts start with free credits, and failed generations refund automatically.
